Delayed Relaxation Phase of Reflexes

Delayed relaxation phase of reflexes is a sign of hypothyroidism. Often better seen in the Achilles, particularly with the patient kneeling on a chair.

This is a middle aged woman with a history of hypothyroidism who was admitted for confusion and found to have multiple signs of severe hypothyroidism and a TSH in the 200s. Findings included slow, slurred speech with a low pitched and hoarse voice, as well as delayed relaxation phase of the deep tendon reflexes.
