Amyloidosis

A condition in which abnormal proteins are deposited throughout the tissues of the body. Characteristic physical findings include macroglossia, enlarged shoulders (shoulder pad sign), and purpura (including racoon eyes).

Patient 1

This patient has the classic shoulder pad sign. He presented with progressive painful swelling in both shoulders along with weight loss and was found to have nephrotic range proteinuria. He was diagnosed with AL amyloid.
